I'm Back

Ok. I'm back from my sabbatical leave. Sabbatical: (from dictionary.com) any extended period of leave from one's customary work, especially for rest, to acquire new skills or training, etc.). That was actually the #5 in definitions but the one I liked the most. I definitely acquired new skills by coaching Elisabeth at the 2011 CrossFit Games. Amazing experience!

The only one downfall of the Games was it was the first time in my entire life that I have ever felt homesick. People say that happens once you have kids but it was an odd and uncomfortable feeling for me. I thought "Facetiming" Mandie and seeing Jackson would make me feel better but once we hung up, it was actually a little worse. It's unreal how fast he is growing!

So, after a discussion with Elisabeth today about goals, I decided I'm going to have to refocus on a couple of my own fitness goals. As fun as CrossFit is, I can't help but being drawn toward oly lifting. When I decided to do it last time I lifted with Roger 2x a week and did 2x a week on my own. I eventually may go back to that but for now I'm going to try and learn some of the true beginner progressions and periodization on my own.

Starting off I think I'm going to go with Coach B's beginner program. I find it odd that I've never done 3 position snatch/cleans. The whole new learning always intrigues me. I figure even with a slightly hectic schedule I should be able to make a 4 day program work for me. I may even be able to sneak some CF workouts in once I get accustomed to the volume.

Have to start hashing out a "no shit" plan tomorrow. Here's Coach B's beginner program:
Day 1
3 POS SNATCH: 5 x 3
SN PUSH PRESS 5 x 5
SNATCH PULL 3 x 3
FRONT SQT 5 x 3
REVERSE BACK EXT 3 x 10

Day 2
3 POS CLEAN 5 x 3
RACK JERKS 5 x 2
CLEAN PULLS 3 x 3
BACK SQUAT 5 x 5
HANGING LEG RAISE 3 x 10

Day 3

PWR SNATCH 5 x 3
SN PP+PHS 5 x 1 + 3
SN SHRUGS 3 x 5
STIFF LEG DEADLIFT 3 x 5

Day 4

ALWAYS ON SATURDAY AND ON DAY 4 ON A 4 DAY PER WEEK PROGRAM WE DO THE SNATCH AND CLEAN AND JERK. WE FEEL THAT THE CONTEST TYPE ENVIORNMENT WILL ALLOW US TO BE READY FOR A REAL COMPETITION. ALL MY ATHLETES KNOW THAT SATURDAY'S ARE THE BIG DAY AND WE WILL GO FOR RECORDS. SOME SATURDAY'S MANY RECORDS ARE SET, WHILE OTHER SATURDAY'S THE ATHLETE HAS NOT RECOVERED FULLY TO ALLOW FOR RECORDS TO BE MADE. NEVERTHELESS, SATURDAY'S ARE MAX PERFORMANCES...WHATEVER MAX'S ARE FOR THAT DAY!!

Wish me luck!!!
